Composite resin is moderately resistant to staining, but it is not entirely stain-proof in the way that glazed porcelain is. Over time, particularly with regular consumption of coffee, tea, red wine, or tobacco, some surface discolouration can occur.
Professional polishing at hygiene appointments can remove much of this surface staining and restore the lustre of the composite. Avoiding whitening toothpastes (which scratch the surface) and rinsing with water after staining foods helps maintain the colour between appointments.
